For many decades, galvanized plumbing pipes have been common in residential and commercial construction. Made of steel and coated with zinc to provide a protective layer, it is not susceptible to corrosion as the protective layer prevents rust from forming on the metal. Galvanized pipes are used in many buildings that were built before the 1960s because it was the piping commonly used before commercial fittings were designed.
